Muhaned Durubi (born in Baghdad, Iraq in 1979) is a visual artist and a poet who lives in Helsinki. In a short time, Durubi has established himself into the Finnish art scene and his work explores issues related to xenophobia, prejudices and human behaviour, seeking to build dialogues and common understanding between native Finns and those from elsewhere – especially people coming from. war zones. He has held several solo and collective exhibitions in Finland and in the Nordic countries. Muhaned’s poetry has been published in Finland in several magazines such as Signal and Tuli & Savu, and in the UK in the Ekphrastic anthology Building Bridges (Ek Zuban Press, 2017) which also used a selection of his art to accompany the writings of poets from Turku, Helsinki, Manchester and Middlesbrough. Rusty Sketches was Durubi’s debut book published by Enostone Publishing House in 2019.
