90 -year-old writers’ freedom of expression association Finnish PEN invites you to celebrate with us! This special evening on Wednesday 14th Nov at Dubrovnik Lounge & Lobby (Eerikinkatu 11, Helsinki) holds speech, poetry, music, dance & hanging out in a good company. The event is free of charge.
The culture restaurant Dubrovnik’s legendary stage hosts a group of charismatic artists. The words and music are by:
writers Venla Hiidensalo, Markus Nummi, Kätlin Kaldmaa (EE), Kristín Ómarsdóttir (IS), Monika Fagerholm and Vilja-Tuulia Huotarinen. Author Maria Peura and DJ Bunuel share their performance ‘Anteeksi, tarvitsemme tulkkia’ – a dialaogue between prose and music. Playing live is rock star Ramy Essam (EG) and the supergroup Megaphone X: Ramy Essam (vox, guitar), Linda Fredriksson (baritone sax), Tommy Lindgren (rap, vox) & Felix Zenger (beat boxing), who play their second gig ever.
The evening is hosted by the authors Nina Honkanen & Annina Holmberg.
15 Nov is the International Day of the Imprisoned Writer. During the PEN evening you have the opportunity to appeal for the poet Galal El-Behairy, who is currently imprisoned in Egypt.
On freedom of expression: the lobby has a showing of Finnish PEN’s 90th anniversary video interviews.
We still have a chance to embrace the cult restaurant Dubrovnik, which has witnessed the cultural nightlife of Helsinki since -92. A warm welcome!
